Our latest instructions......and a disappointment.
I am Scott Mader (who is Open Source Ecology's person on-site) and I look forward to meeting
everyone in a few days. I will be at Belize International Airport on Friday Feb 21st with a bus to bring everyone to the village of Copper Bank
where we will be building the house.
The last flight arrives at
2:30 pm and those participants should be cleared customs and out of the airport
by 3 pm so that is when we are planning to start the drive to Copper Bank.
the trip should take a little less than two hours.
The Belize International Airport is small so it should
not be hard to find the other participants and I will be there with a sign the
reads "Open Source Ecology" and I will reach there around 2 pm. There is WiFi at the airport.
On Feb 27th the bus will leave Copper Bank early in the
morning to make sure everyone gets on their flights
The cooks have prepared a week of wonderful Belizean food
and there will be vegetarian and vegan options at every meal.
The US dollar is accepted in Belize and can be used for
everything here and the exchange rate is 2 Belize dollars equals one US dollar.
Here is a list of items everyone needs to bring:
- light weight long pants - maybe 2 pair
- light weight long sleeve shirt - 2 or 3
- shorts and t-shirt
- closed toes shoes like sneakers
- work boots if you have them
- sun block
- hat
- sunglasses
- mosquito repellent
- a nalgene bottle or some reusable container for drinking water. We do not want to have disposable plastic cups at the build site.
- bathing suit
- water shoes - shoes you don't mind getting wet
- flip flops
- Bluetooth speaker to share tunes
- Frisbee or card games
- yoga gear
- a GoPro or other time lapse capable camera for documenting the build
Also if you have room in your luggage and you want to bring
some items, we can distribute any used clothes or used kids toys you want to
donate to people living in Copper Bank. anything but winter clothes is
appreciated.
The disappointment???!!! Drones are not allowed in Belize so the best laid plans.
